Healthcare profession offers the nurses an array of opportunities to practice in a diversity of social settings. Every nursing workplace involves distinctive challenges that demand a specific set of skills and knowledge. At the same time, it offers a set of personal and professional rewards that combine to create motivation and professional growth. In this article I would like to discuss opportunities for nurses to migrate and to work in Canada.

Nurses willing to practice in Canada must take CRNE.CRNE means Canada Registered Nurses Exam. This exam is conducted by CNA to measure the capability of Overseas Nurses in the field of Nursing. Unfortunately, this exam can be written only in Canada. To appear for this CRNE, you can apply for Short Term visit visa. As IELTS is mandatory to appear for the CRNE you need to prepare for it. You may take the help of the online portal IELTS4U. However, as the requirement is 6.5 in Academics IELTS, it will be easy to secure that score. You may also enroll in CRNP so that your preparation for CRNE becomes easy.

What is CRNP Program? It is called “Canada Registered Nurse Placement Program”. In this program we send Overseas Nurses to Canada by giving appropriate training & a Work Permit. Any overseas Nurse having a Diploma or Degree in Nursing with minimum one year of work experience and who is ready to prepare for CRNE and IELTS may enroll in this program. The process for initial Registration will take approximately 3 to 4 months of time. After getting the Registration, the Nurse has to book for CRNE Exam which further takes 2 months. After passing the CRNE Exam, the registration would take 6 weeks. So totally, including the work permit, the whole process will would take around 7 to 8 months.

The exam will take maximum of two days and sometimes it gets finished in one day. So you don’t need to stay long time in Canada to write the exam. Legally you can stay by changing your visa status. But we always recommend you to come back after giving CRNE exam. But there are some people who change their visa in Canada, and do not come back. We recommend you to fly back to Canada along with family after getting Work Permit.

You will get Full Registration from Nursing Board in Canada after you successfully pass the CRNE Exam. Once we get the Registration Number, we will find Employer and Work Permit to work in Canada. The whole process will take around 6 weeks after PIN number. As the CRNE exam will be for maximum of 2 days, you can plan your journey for a week. Completing Your Study Abroad Application

Leaving for a foreign country to study your object of choice is a fun prospect. However one thing you should do first is finish a study abroad application. You might actually have to finish more than one dependent on certain circumstances. For instance, there are setups like CIEE, CEA, AIFS and others who need a completed application from scholars who wish to join their study abroad programs. Often there’s an application charge needed before your application will be processed. What’s needed from the application will change dependent on where you are applying. Your college could also need an application for study abroad.

Certain colleges have certain possibilities for scholars who need to take a role in foreign study. Your college might or might not offer the programme you’re looking for. It helps to first speak with a consultant at your school who can tell you more on the available study programs in foreign countries. He or she will also tell you about setups the college works with for these foreign study programs. And, your advisor will help you if you have questions on the application process. Another thing you could need to make an application for before starting on study abroad is fiscal help. Many scholars can’t afford the full value of a foreign study programme, but there are things that can be helpful. There are federal loans for authorized programs, alternative funding sources like private loans, and even scholarship awards primarily based on certain standards. Some grants are for specific areas of study only. Others apply to certain states only. Then there are stipends that are based on fiscal need, and those based mostly on educational merit.

Perform some research and find out which grant to sign up for or if you can apply for at least one to enhance your probabilities. When working on a study abroad application, you might find there’s a mountain of bureaucracy to wade thru. You’ll naturally need to provide your basic private info, however other information could be needed also. You could need to provide tutorial records, letters of advice, and explanation that you can travel overseas. Also you could need a physical exam and / or vaccination treatments, and of course a credible passport.

While it is correct that all this can get overpowering, it is worthwhile because after you get thru it all that you are prepared to leave on the learning experience of a whole life.

Loans, Fellowships & Scholarships for Students Studying Abroad

For the Indian student planning to study abroad, there are various sources to consider for financial aid apart from your/parents’ savings. The following are some of the major alternative options for financial assistance:

Bank Loans:
Several banks such as Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Canara Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, HSBC Bank, Indian Bank etc. are offering education loans for the students willing to study abroad. Based on the loan amount, certain percentage of security (such as NSE shares, house mortgage etc.) is required and interest is charged accordingly. The interest rates would generally not exceed the Prime Lending Rates (PLR). Certain banks also accept a third party guarantee instead of security. To avail of bank loans, the candidate needs to fulfill certain conditions such as they must be an Indian resident, confirmation of admission and requirement of minimum annual income. The repayment of loan generally starts after six months of course completion or one-month of job (if employed immediately after course completion) and the entire amount has to be repaid in 5 to 7 years (from the first payment).

Trust Loans:
Trust loans are either interest-free or charge a lower interest rate (2 to 4 %). The loan amount is variable and is usually up to Rs. 1.5 lacs. However, they generally have a deadline by which you must submit the loan application forms. The following are some of the renowned trusts in India: • J.N. Tata Endowment (soft loans between Rs. 50,000 and Rs.1.5 lacs), • Sahu Jain Trust, Mariwala Trust, • K.C. Mahindra Education Trust and • R.D. Sethna Scholarship Fund.

Fellowships:
Fellowships are comparatively difficult to acquire due to stiff competition. The popular ones are- • Inlaks Scholarships • Aga Khan Foundation • Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships and • AT & T Leadership Awards (only for U.S.) Despite of the above sources, students can also acquire financial support from the University Funding – Scholarship/Fellowships/Assistantships, U.S. Banks Student Loans (for US) and other sources.

Support From The Universities:
Students have to consider that most universities provide financial aid to international students on merit and not on need. It is easier to avail monetary assistance for graduate programs than undergraduate courses. The aid amount varies for different universities and fields of specialization. Also note that it is easier to receive financial assistance from U.S. and U.K. universities than those in Australia, New Zealand or Canada.

For Undergraduate Students:
In case of undergraduates, Aid forms from the institute as well as the Foreign Student’s Financial Aid Form has to be submitted along with a bank statement. Forms may ask details about your personal and total (family) annual income, average living expenses, asset details etc.

For Postgraduate Students:
Postgraduate students must mention about financial aid requirement in their application forms. Meritorious students receive financial assistance most commonly in the form of tuition waivers, scholarship or fellowship and assistantships (a cash stipend to take care of their expenses and in return they work for certain hours a week- either teaching or research based).

Notes:
• Indians usually are able to manage some funding after one or two semesters. • Ensure that you go through the university information thoroughly and understand the terms and conditions properly.

Nursing Scrubs and Medical Scrubs Made in the USA

Nurses scrubs, medical scrubs hospital uniforms that are made in the USA are not easy to find.  Nurses uniforms aside, any clothing item made in the USA is a rarity.  In fact, ninety-seven percent of all clothing sold in the United States is no longer made in the U.S.  However, on some tags, the words “Made in the USA” might even mean the clothes were made in Guam, Puerto Rico and the Marinas Islands, which are U.S. territories and possessions that don’t necessarily have to pay workers the U.S. minimum wage but can still use the ‘Made in the USA’ phrase.

U.S. content must be disclosed on labels in clothing, furs and cars.  But do people care more about the origin of the item or the cost associated with that item?  Is the manufacturing tag on the hospital uniforms more important than the price tag?  And, why do products that are American-made cost more?  If the company does not have to pay importing fees, one would think that the product would cost less.  The fact of the matter is that it is a labor-intensive industry, so wherever a company can find the cheapest labor is probably where the production is going to go.  Companies that import their products hurts the American textile worker.  However, being able to purchase cheaper goods also helps the American consumer – they can wear a Made in China set of medical scrubs in the colors red, white and blue and can still hang onto their green.  Seventy-seven percent of Americans said that price is the most important factor when buying clothes, which includes medical uniforms.

Shopping for nurses scrubs and medical scrubs online, it is easy to find several retailers who actually advertise ‘imported cotton’ or ‘imported poly/cotton.’  However, it is difficult to find ‘Made in the USA.’  One scrubs online retail shop, blue sky scrubs, advertises that all of their products are handmade in the USA – and their prices make their claim believable.  Clearly, the companies that sell medical scrubs online for $4.99 per item are importing their products.  They are likely purchasing their fabric overseas as well.  The CEO of blue sky scrubs admits to previously ordering their products from the Dominican Republic.  However, since they had started manufacturing their products in the USA, after ordering just one large order of nurses scrubs and surgical scrub hats from the Dominican Republic, blue sky scrubs quickly switched back to their Houston, TX scrubs manufacturer.  Apparently, the difference in quality was astonishing.  The handful of people who sew the Houston-made scrubs do not use machines.  Every item is hand-cut, hand-measured, and hand-sewn.  Of course, there are drawbacks to sporting the USA label.  First, the prices have to be higher to account for the cost of labor in the United States, as well as the cost of the fabric and the cost to keep the utilities on and pay the rent for the building where the scrubs are made.  The cost of living and employing is higher, therefore the cost of the nursing scrubs reflect that.  One of the other drawbacks to having the USA made medical uniforms is that since each item is hand-cut and hand-sewn, there are bound to be variations between sizes.  For example, not all of their small scrub tops are exactly the same “small.”  There can be up to 1/2 inch variation in each item, which some medical professional who wear scrubs do not like, especially since the price is higher than other scrubs such as Cherokee or Dickies scrubs.  Also, the selection of these hand-sewn scrubs is limited.  Urbane scrubs have many colors and styles.  Sewing scrubs and scrub hats by hand is a tedious process, so although the American scrubs company may want to expand their line, the likelihood of that being in the near future is slim.  Additionally, keeping the popular scrubs in stock is difficult because they take longer to make than those scrubs that are mass-made by a machine.  Even so, the loyal customers who have purchased the scrubs that are made by an American hand rarely want to go back to the other options, regardless of cost, selection, and availability.  Therefore, even though there are Cons, these American-made scrubs will continue their manufacturing in the US.

How to Make Friends While Studying Abroad

Most students study abroad with the intent of making new friends and immersing themselves in a new culture and new community. However, many students end up forming a group with other students from their home country and not making the most of the brilliant opportunity they have. The first thing to do when you decide to study abroad is to work on gaining self confidence, and read some news reports on the country you are going too. Give yourself some background knowledge and something to talk about. Then, make sure you know enough of the language to have conversations with others.

When you reach your destination country, remember that you are going to have to put effort into making friends. Local students may seem standoffish, but are probably just waiting for you to break the ice. The first group of students to start with is other international students studying with you. These are students in your situation, and will want to make friends too. You can make a variety of friends from different countries in this way, and find people to socialise with and practise the country’s language with.

Next, don’t presume that orientation seminars or ice breaker events are pointless, as they are there to help you make friends. Activities such as sticking your name to your head or talking about yourself for two minutes may seem daunting, but will help you make global friendships. Attend a few, and you’ll make many friends in a very easy way. Universities hold these events to encourage everyone to make friends, and they are usually tried and tested methods.

If you want to make friends with locals, you will then need to arrange social gatherings outside of university time. Make sure you are always safe and that somebody knows where you are; make sure you aren’t wandering alone, and take money and a map. Go to different surroundings, and see who you’ll meet there. You might meet friends in malls or clubs, or less obvious places such as coffee shops. Remember that as long as you are friendly and polite most people will respond positively to you, and try talking to different groups of people. Local teenagers will know the best places to hang out, but local adults will know where to get cheap or fresh food, and where student deals are available. However, make sure that you know the customs of the local area, and try not to offend anyone. Watch what you wear and say, and if you are somewhere with strong beliefs, then you should adhere to them. Cover yourself up if necessary, or take off your jewellery. If you meet a special someone, keep public displays to a minimum and research the local laws for your area. In some countries, kissing outside can gain you a caution! Your university should have information on the area if you need some, or try googling it. You will struggle to make friends if you don’t appear to respect the country’s boundaries.

Finally, there is nothing wrong with becoming friends with other people from your home country, but don’t limit yourself. While you will probably become best friends with someone who is at your Uni, you will miss out on a lot of the pleasures of being a student studying abroad if you don’t make the most of the social opportunities it gives you. Remember to use your language skills, take photos and make friends, and you’ll have a brilliant time.

2 Protecting Male and Female Filipino Nurses Migrating AbroadWhen skilled workers can’t make enough money at home, many migrate overseas. But without labour laws that protect migrant workers, the dream of working abroad can quickly turn into a nightmare. Women are especially vulnerable to abuse and exploitation, because they often work in sectors where labour law enforcement is weak. But when laws protecting migrants are effective, the dream becomes reality, with a surprising benefit when these workers return home.
