Do Military bases overseas need Civilian Nurses?

I have applied to over 30 locations through the army medcell (resumix) and sent several application materials to air force bases overseas through the direct hire authority. It has been two weeks and I havent heard back from any of them. I am starting to think maybe they don’t need nurses or don’t want US nurses for relocation, incentive purposes. I am a Med Surg nurse with a BSN and I was told that they were in need of nurses.

2 weeks is nothing..it can take Months if not longer before you hear anything.

But most Nurses OCONUS are AD or Locals.

It’s just an idea, but he wants to break up and I don’t. Where we live doesn’t offer the degree I want to study. I’ve been looking at other colleges to get an idea of costs. Would you break up with your gf/bf if she was just thinking about studying overseas?
Thank you!

I would sit down as a couple and talk everything over, going through all of your options and then at least if yu end up breaking up it can be as friends and not a real bad break up where you don’t know whats happened. So yeah, just talk it over and et all of the insecurities out in the open.

I intend to do a study abroad program lasting anywhere from 6-10 weeks in Paris this summer. I am a student at UCLA and cannot decide which company’s program to choose. I am an international economics major with a minor in French. Does anyone have any experience with studying abroad, suggestions as to how to pick a company, programs that they’ve taken, or general advice? I would be willing to do anything business, economics, or advanced French study related as a program focus.

Check out the ESGCI-BBA program, as it sounds exactly like what you are looking for. I attended this school for 2 years and the Courses (Finance, Marketing, and Management) you take and the students (80% international, 20% French) you meet are both great.

One of the biggest questions you have to ask yourself is if you are going to use an exchange program or if you are going to just pickup and go. The former is easier as the school gives you lots of support finding an apartment (with international roomates), but you need to make sure your school is willing to exchange with whichever program you choose. Check with your international department for a list of schools they do an exchange with. If the program you want is not on the list, ask if they are willing to start doing an exchange.

But if your school cannot do an exchange and/or you are adventurous enough to just pick up and go on your own, you will be on your own. I did this, and was able to find an apartment through craigslist from a British lady the first year, and from an Australian couple the second year, so both spoke English which made it easier.

The assistants in France program is for students who want to work teaching English while they go to school in France. Check it out if you decide to stay longer, or if you want a LOT of information about what is required to aclimate to living in France.

Could Your Kids Benefit From Studying Abroad?

As any parent will know, the transition from their children being at school to moving away to university can be a tough one on both sides. If you are used to having your children at home a lot, it can seem very quiet when they eventually move out. But they might end up moving further afield than you previously thought if they opt for a course that allows them to study overseas.

Even though it is a big leap for any teenager to make, it can help them in so many ways, both now and in the future. If your child hasn’t already thought about it then it could be worth bringing up the idea. After all, this is quite often a brilliant opportunity to explore another part of the world and see how other people live their lives. Going on holiday is one thing, but living in another country for a longer duration than normal is very different.

It will also expose them to different types of teaching, and it can put them into an environment that is much better for learning. Let’s suppose they want to learn French, for example. It’s much better to actually live in France while they learn the language than it would be to take a course in their home country. This is simply because they will be surrounded by native French speakers for the duration of the time they are there – it makes it much easier to pick up what is needed.

But your kids won’t just learn different subjects when they go abroad, they will also learn a variety of life skills without even trying. The whole experience is set up to make it easier for them to take on their adult life in a much more mature manner.

Of course, the main downside to seeing your child go abroad for a long duration is being apart from one another. They will certainly be of an age where they are capable of looking after themselves, but this doesn’t stop you missing them.

That’s why it is important to set up ways in which you can keep in touch before they go. You could arrange to email them if they have a specific address, for example. Picking up the phone is another popular way to stay in touch; if they take that French course then cheap calls to France can do the trick. But such methods of communication will apply with most other countries too.

In short, it is not too difficult to stay in touch while they are away, whilst you look forward to hearing more about it when they return.

The Benefits of Studying Abroad

Studying abroad is by far the biggest opportunity that a student cannot afford to miss. Whether studying at college or university, the chance to travel abroad and study overseas at the same time is becoming more and more popular among students today!

The question your probably thinking is why would I want to study abroad at university and leave my friends and family, when im just trying to finish my studies and can most likely do the same things here? What you really should be asking yourself is do I want a life changing experience that will live with me forever?

The purpose of providing this opportunity is so that students can broaden their world of understanding and perspective on just about anything they wish to. From economics to politics and social issues, students can gain a different view; see how the world works and how different cultures approach their normal daily lives. You will also gain this type of experience by studying familiar courses but therefore studying them from a different cultural experience.

To receive an international education means that after the period of time has finished you will return home with a new found greater self-confidence, independence, and self-reliance. And with excellent knowledge behind you, you will feel completely prepared to take on any challenges you are faced with. On top of all these valuable attributes you will come back with a new appreciation for your own country and understand it on a much deeper level.

Students also do not have to worry about the pressure on them to do well, as studying abroad is much more than just exam results. Abroad universities are less focused on grades and more on learning and increasing understanding and knowledge so therefore you can expect more lecture based classes than ones of discussion and participation. If you are struggling or need help there are always professors around to help much like in your own country.

If you’re looking for a way to influence or boost your career path then travelling is the perfect way to do this. Nowadays employers are keen to seek college/university graduates who have spent time studying abroad mainly for the fact that they want employees with an international knowledge base as well as foreign language skills. So if you’re looking for a career similar to this or ones in which knowledge of different cultures may benefit, then travelling to study abroad is the right thing for you.
