United Nations, New York, June 2009 – The Philippines has exported tens of thousands of nurses over the past few years, a trend that is likely to continue due to high demand in developed countries. This has created a shortage of nurses in the Philippines, and has left unprotected migrants subject to exploitation. New bilateral agreements seek to improve migrants’ protection while encouraging the return of experienced professionals. Transcript (pdf): www.un.org
Question by best nurse: Does a US citizen who attended nursing school abroad have to take the local boards before taking the CGFNS?
Best answer:
Answer by j h no – not the local state boards…. 1st go through the horrible cgfns either certificate program ( has test) or evaluation program depending on state you wish to license in and then the state board will hopefully give you att ( authorization to test) for taking nclex to become licensed…please be aware that each state is different and you can get licensed in any state you wish and then apply for that license to endorse you becoming licensed in another state regardless of where you live. i have heard that easiest state to get license in ( least amount of hassle and paperwork) is new york …good luck and try to avoid certificate program with cgfns as it takes a lot of time & hassle

Question by linni_0413: I’m a nursing graduate.I’d like to work abroad as nursing assistant/aide/caregiver while underboard.can u help
Since i cannot take the board this year because of financial matters, I’d like to use the time working abroad so that I could earn better for my family while not yet ready for the local board. I really need a job. pls if anyone can help me that would be very much appreciated. thank u guys in advance
Best answer:
Answer by Beth Are you sure that is the route you want to take? Statistically, every week someone waits to take the boards after graduation their chance of passing it drops. By the time a year has gone by, pretty much nobody is able to pass it.
I am guessing you are not living in the United States because people in your situation here who are not ready for the RN become CNAs instead. The news we get about people working those jobs where people get sent overseas is rather scary. If you are attractive and young, stay home please.
Question by Pearl A: Does the course nursing offer a good life abroad?
I was really wondering because my parents wanted me to take up non other than nursing. Some say, other places abroad has high demands on nursing students and maybe especially from the Philippines so they say and that nurses abroad have high salaries. I was planning to take up veterinary medicine when I reach college but my parents wanted me to take up nursing instead. My parents’ reason was so that we could live abroad and earn higher amount of money than the Philippines who is now experiencing financial and job opportunity problems. Does nursing offer a good life abroad? If so, students especially high school students should be forced to take up nursing to have a good life? are there any courses aside from nursing that has high demands in other countries too?

Question by asdfghjkl: If I pursue a nursing degree in college, will I ever be able to study abroad?
So I definitely want to major in nursing in college. I’ve wanted to be a nurse my whole life. But, one of the most exciting things about college is getting to study abroad. I’m worried that if I pursue a nursing degree, that I’ll never get to study abroad! So is it true? I just need some advice on this situation. Thank you

Answer by Amber Marie You can study abroad with Nursing, but you will want an exchange program that is partnered with your school, and you will have to do it in an English speaking country (if English is your only language), unless you are also minoring in that language. If you go to a country where English is not the official language they will not teach anything besides that language to you, you wouldn’t be able to take nursing courses. The study away director at your school will be able to help you.

Seungyeon has finished college and put aside her dreams of becoming a model, instead setting up a coffee shop with her friends Gyuri, Yoobin and Uee. Through a twist of fate, Kyuhyun unexpectedly re-enters Seungyeon’s life, two worlds separated for 5 years clashing together again. The question is…. what mischief and misunderstandings will Seungyeon and Kyuhyun’s pride cause for them and their friends?
