Answer by Errolyn27
Yes, financial aid can pay for study abroad, but to get this done you first need to be approve for financial aid at a local university, the go to the Study Abroad Development at you local school explain what classes you would like to take and in which country, and this center will register you via from your local school although you are in another country. This is the only I know it can be done.

Question by Chocoboz: Military nursing locally…. can this help me in going abroad?
I’m a nursing graduate in the Philippines and I’m wondering if working as a military nurse would count as work experience when I apply for a job abroad, most specifically the US..

Help?

Thanks for the answers guys, but I may have left out a bit or I worded my question wrong…

I’m still in the Philippines, and I’ve already applied for the NCLEX but still haven’t taken it yet, and most employers/hospitals/agencies ask for my work experience. So can working as a military nurse “here in the Philippines” help in getting an employer or a job abroad, specifically in the US? Because, I always thought you have to work at a hospital to be eligible for agencies or hospitals abroad.

Help? Thanks in advance.

There might be confusion with those of us familiar with military nurses in the US military. They for the most part assigned to hospitals, but then attatched to the field hospitals and units when they are needed for deployment. In such, the US military nurses would have hospital experience.

If this is your situation, then you would just state that you worked as an RN and give the name of the military hospital.

In the case of a US Army Nurse, they might have a resume which says:

Staff Nurse
Orthopedic Unit
Darnall Army Community Hospital
From XX to XX

Head Nurse
Surgical Unit
Brooke Army Medical Medical Center.
From XX to XX

Hope this gives you an idea.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by : PLEASE help. Studying Overseas. Need translation help from students who don’t like me. What do I do?
Me: Born and bred in USA, but studying Med in another country (my parents sent me here, but I chose to do med).
I found it very hard to integrate with everyone, as they’re culturally very conservative, and totally different to me. I’m now in 3rd year, and entered the clinical phase, which requires us to clerk history from the patients. I’m trying to learn the language but I just can’t talk fluently or understand what the patients say and really need someone to translate.

Problem: I’ve been sidelined in my batch since first year (as did the few other foreigners, who either ended up quitting or dropping year). I tried mixing with my fellow group mates, but they all tend to just ignore me and throw me aside. It’s like they look for every tiny excuse they can find to pick a fight with me (e.g. them calling me a liar if they find me doing better than them at an exam, claiming that I pretended I never studied; my fluency in english and american accent equate to me showing off; etc etc). When they find a reason to argue, if I stand up for myself, they refuse to translate all together. They’ll refuse to discuss anything with me. Unlike in USA, resources aren’t available on an intranet..we have to rely on seniors or fellow students..and that’s the problem.

In summary, I’m forced to rely on people who deliberately ignore me. It’s a classic case of workplace mobbing or bullying, because I’m the odd one out and I have nothing to offer them (e.g. I won’t be specializing in their country to refer patients to them; nor do I have a car with the local license so that I can offer a lift; etc.). All this is causing me a great deal of stress, but I don’t want to give up, because I came this far, and really want to be a doctor. This college doesn’t have any counsellor who can intervene, or any real system in place to deal with this kind of stuff.

Please…any sensible suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds as though you’ve been doing well in your class work so far. It’s mainly conversational skills in the foreign language that are the problem now.

My suggestion: Get hold of some language CDs or tapes and allocate time to study the language. Your accent and vocabulary will improve, and you’ll be able to construct sentences and questions. When I studied a foreign language, I memorized quite a few “model sentences”, each of which illustrated several points of grammar. They were a good learning device.

Don’t argue or fight with your classmates – it’s not worth the trouble. There was a movie that came out last year: “Karate Kid” starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. A black, pre-teen boy travels to China with his mom, who has a new job there. He’s enrolled in a Chinese school, but is shunned and bullied by the other boys, and eventually even attacked. Jackie Chan, in the role of a maintenance man, rescues him and befriends him, gradually teaching him more and more advanced martial arts skills. Eventually he gets good enough to compete in a high-level tournament, and wins the respect of his former tormentors. He had to adapt to the culture and learn the language, to earn the respect of the other students.

With your evident intelligence and sophistication, I believe you can overcome the obstacles facing you. Don’t give up! You’re doing very, very well under difficult circumstances.

Question by linni_0413: I’m a nursing graduate.I’d like to work abroad as nursing assistant/aide/caregiver while underboard.can u help
Since i cannot take the board this year because of financial matters, I’d like to use the time working abroad so that I could earn better for my family while not yet ready for the local board. I really need a job. pls if anyone can help me that would be very much appreciated. thank u guys in advance

Best answer:

Answer by Beth
Are you sure that is the route you want to take? Statistically, every week someone waits to take the boards after graduation their chance of passing it drops. By the time a year has gone by, pretty much nobody is able to pass it.

I am guessing you are not living in the United States because people in your situation here who are not ready for the RN become CNAs instead. The news we get about people working those jobs where people get sent overseas is rather scary. If you are attractive and young, stay home please.

The immigration process, I am not sure of. But you will have to pass boards in whatever state you take a job in icon smile Help! I studied nursing abroad and I was wondering what the process is like to emigrate to the US?

At one time our local hospital provided housing to Philippine Nurses…who worked for about half the cost of U.S. nurses, during our last major shortage.

Study Abroad: Tips To Help You Decide

Being able to get a good education can be the extremely solid foundation that can shape a persons future. This is our way of developing our potentials and be competitive in any field or industry that we choose. We need to be able to provide and arm ourselves with the right knowledge to emerge victorious and successful in any endeavor we immerse ourselves.

This is the reason why many people value their education so much and go to great lengths to avail of themselves of this huge opportunity. But this does not necessarily mean that getting an education should be all hard work. You can also have some fun along the way, and what can more exciting, fun and adventurous than studying abroad?

More and more people have taken this route to finish their education for a variety of reasons. It can be seen as a very significant moment in a student’s life. You gain a lot of advantages over other students as your perspectives and your attitude will surely change. You will have a wider and broader view of everything around you.

Here are some of the reasons why studying abroad is an excellent option:

1. Academic Credit: This is of course your main goal. To get credited with the courses and classes you attend and apply it to your educational requirements when you graduate. Whether you plan to complete your studies there or you want to take just a couple of classes, make sure that you will be able to use it.
2. Learning a new Language: With so many developments in technology, the world market is becoming smaller and smaller. More and more companies from different countries are doing business and these companies are looking for employees that can break down the language barrier.
3. A Great Learning Experience: When you study abroad chances are that you will be living independently. There will be a lot of practical life experiences that you can be able to use later on. Also, if you are considering learning a specific course, certain areas will be able to provide more knowledge and information about it.
4. Recipe for an Impressive Resume: Having international experience will be a big plus factor on your resume. Employers will be more impressed knowing that you have the skills that they need in an international level.
5. Fun and Lasting Memories: Not only will you be able to learn and develop yourself; you will also be having the time of your life. When at breaks or free times, you can learn more about the culture of the country you are studying in. You will also be meeting new friends and mentors, these are some of the defining moments in your life that you will never ever forget.

Before finally deciding or embarking on a great adventure through studying abroad, you need to talk to a lot of people first. Your parents should know about your decision, as they most probably will be the one to shoulder your expenses. If you are lucky enough to get a scholarship, you still have to let them know.

You can also talk to your academic advisor as well as a study abroad advisor to learn about the requirements and if this decision is advisable to you.

Many students perceive studying abroad as impossible, this is attributed to a few reasons like the financial issue. This is the time to talk to a finance advisor or to an organization that offers programs where in you will be given assistance.

Take the time to research first. This will ensure a smooth and easy transition. Now go ahead, see the world, study abroad.

Now there is a gallery of powerful information yours for the taking. Decide now to reduce stress and improve the quality of your life. Click here: International Study Abroad Program
